My mother asked me today if I was writing down all of my son's firsts. I have documented several important firsts, but I remembered that part of my starting this blog was to document all the important things about the first year with Levi. So here I am to try to put some of this in writing... especially since I don't yet have a 2010 calendar.
I know I wrote down his first two teeth. And while I thought his third tooth (first top tooth, L) had started coming through on his 8-mo birthday, it became evident that in our anticipation of the top teeth, his third bottom tooth (L) had already popped through unnoticed. Here it is 17 Jan, and he has his fourth tooth coming through on the bottom and two teeth coming through on top!
Let's see what other milestones...
He first rolled over on the Friday (4th) of Labor Day weekend 2009 while we were at our friend Ryland's house. Levi was a few days short of his 4-mo birthday.
He was trying to crawl at Gramma and Grampa's house in IL during our visit for deer season. He could hold himself on his hands and knees, but managed only to accomplish scooting himself backwards. His forward motion was only on his belly. It wasn't until we returned home to FL that he managed forward motion on his hands and knees. It was the Monday before Thanksgiving (23rd). Levi was 6.5-mo-old.
Daddy was gone TDY to Turkey when Levi and I were planning our trip to IL for the holidays. Grampa flew down to help drive us and the puppies to IL. Grampa arrived on Monday Dec 14, and because he was babysitting so I could wrap up a few projects, grampa got to witness as Levi began using the ottoman to pull himself up to stand. In the two days before we left FL, Levi was already pulling himself up on the couch too. He had also ventured out a little further than the living room and made his first trip to the kitchen.
Levi increased his standing time at Gramma and Grampa's house. He'd already made his way into the kitchen and even once to the bathroom... he crawls so fast across the floor, you'd often think he was going to follow you up the stairs! He hasn't the opportunity to try that one yet! At Aunt Sandy's house for Christmas, he crawled through Mekaiah's new tunnel while she was too unsure to try! You would have thought Levi had been crawling through that tunnel for months!! The fearlessness of that boy is sometimes unnerving... when I imagine what that will mean for later...
Back and G & G's, several times he had been placed standing in front of the door to look through the window at the outside world. Just yesterday (16 Jan 2010) he crawled over to the door and pulled himself to stand all without ANY help! I guess those little fingers can grab hold of the tiny window frame to give himself enough leverage.
Is he talking yet? He is definitely talking now. He says "ma-ma" for me or if he wants to nurse and "pa-pa" for Grampa. We think he has a name for Gramma that seems to be different than his other jabberings, but we haven't exactly deciphered it yet. I think he's been saying "ma-ma" for months already... but sometimes you, the mother, hear what you want to hear, especially when the baby is crying :) One morning after Daddy had left, he was crawling across me in the bed and was carrying on with his usual jabbers, one of which sounded a lot like "da-da," but I'm pretty sure he was just jabbering. If he figures out to say "Da-da" while looking at Daddy's picture, that would be totally different. In the meantime, I have the memory of the first time he actually said "ma-ma" to me. It was two days before his 8-mo birthday (6 Jan). I was sitting at Mom and Dad's dining table, and Levi was playing with his toys in the middle of the room. He crawled all the way across the room to me, looked up at me and said "ma-ma-ma-ma." I knew without a doubt he was calling me ma-ma!
Yesterday Gramma was feeding him goldfish crackers. I was stretching my neck, lying on the couch. Levi walked his way along the footstool (baracade in between the recliners) over to the other recliner where he could reach his sippy cup. He wanted a drink of water, and he got it... without any help!
More to come...
